I was wondering if you have had a sex change, i.e. male to female, could you reproduce and what would be the purpose for a sex change if you decide to have one? I'm being totally serious. This is kind of a survey/research for a paper I'm writing.

Could you also tell me when you are getting the gender change, i.e. male to female, it is just the vagina you're aquiring or do you get a uterus, too?

No
Gender reassignment makes a person sterile. Modern science hasn't come up with artificial ovum or spermatozoa and I don't think they ever will.
Sperm and Ovum are created through a complex and impossible to recreate means of hormones, DNA and chemical responses in the brain. A genetically original male cannot suddenly produce ovum any more than a genetically original female can produce sperm.

It's a neo-vagina. There are no real female counterparts, such as a uterus, cervix, etc. It's a cavity created by inverting the penis into the body. The labia are formed using skin from the testicle sack or penis and the clitoris is formed by relocating the penis head. The result has a very convincing resemblance to a vagina, but it's not an organ in the way a vagina is.
There's no way for male-to-females to carry a child with today's current medicine. Given another 50 years, it might be but it'll be a long wait.

Well, I know you asked about male to female, but I'm female to male. In my surgery, I would have to have a hysterectomy and if wanted, a reconstructed penis made and attached. This would cause me to be sterile. I would no longer have female internal organs for reproduction, nor would I have functionining testes used to create sperm.
and as far as WHY...it's a very personal decision. I want to live my life the way I see in my mind as the way I present to the rest of the world. Imagine feeling like you're wearing a "costume" your whole life, but because that's all people see, that's how they treat you. They never see the REAL you, they just see the outer shell and so that's what they respond to, and it forms your whole life in a way that doesn't feel right to you. That's how I feel. I've known since I was very very young that I was meant to be male. I don't think like a girl, I don't behave "like a lady", and I don't really have an interest in "girl things". I think the whole concept of "men do this" and "women do that" is ridiculous anyway. Sex is defined at birth, gender is defined by society. Or..an easier way to say it, Sex is between the legs, gender is between the ears.

No reproduction is possible after hormones after about 6 months, the surgery doesn't replace reproductive organs so unless you sperm bank or freeze your eggs no biological children. I am having one because I hated how my life was, I detested being seen and interacted with as male, and hated how my body was changing. If you would like me to go more indepth or have any other questions feel free to e-mail me, I enjoy being able to help others learn about this topic.
The best way to explain why is thinking about yourself. Think how much you don't want a sex change, that is how much we do.

you can have a sex change operation if you can affort it that is.but no you can not reproduce. some people feel they were in fact borned the wrong sex, i for one happen to feel that way. i would love to change gender, but that is only to match the inner feeling of who i am. i know that i can not have kids. but the outer body would match the inner person. i am 54, and only now coming to terms with this and cross-dressing.

no, you cannot reproduce. The purpose of having one - a personal choice that some people make. some people feel that they are born into the wrong body, and want this surgery to correct that problem and make them feel whole and happy.
