I should think you mean Johann Gutenberg (c 1397-1468), regarded as the inventor of movable type, although individual baked clay characters were introduced in China in the 11th century. Gutenberg invented a method of making type of individual letters from molten metal known as typecasting. In 1455 he produced the first large printed book, the 'Gutenberg Bible'.
