First of all I am a iranian and I'm proud of the history of my country. I just want to know what US people think about Iran? and what do they think about 300?
I don't know how much is a theater ticket price in US and how many people have seen this movie, but as I see US Box Office and 70,000,000 $ just for one week, I think it has and will have a great effect on US people?

I'm agree with you that it's a movie. but in this time that iran's nuke project is in security console and they are threationg Iran.
about the war movies, I have seen troy and gladiator too and enjoyed too. but it wasn't about other nations. the war was between romans in gladiator and greek in troy. if they want to produce war movies why they don't show their history for example about napoleon's wars.
another thing why they show the persian like animals. the first thing that comes to mind when you the persian king in this movie is that He is gay. her wives are lesbian and his soldiers are like wild animals and in other side the sparta are the statue of freedom and they are good looking?

Haven't seen it yet but want to.
When I think of the people of a nation, it is in a quite different light than when I think of the political position of the government of that country.
The honest truth about different nations is that the vast majority of average people would get along great with each other and be happy to live and work side by side and get on with life.
The unfortunate truth is that sometimes a government and some within the general population have such extreme attitudes regarding freedom (in my humble opinion) that their actions overwhealm the general perception of the people of the country.
Case in point. Americans feared and in many cases hated Soviet people and the feelings were mutual on their side. The fear and hate was caused by only a few at a governmental level and a few "zealots" among the general population.
With the fall of the Berlin wall, it became incredibly obvious that the people of both countries found that there was nothing to fear except the actions of the governments that led to a confrontational situation for decades.
I can see the same thing happening between Iran, the country and most of the rest of the world. Fear is being generated on both side and held in place by a few that would create that situation in hopes of fostering their own power, be it political, religious, ethnic or parts of all three.
I have very little contact with real Iranian people. I'll bet they are smart, work hard and try to get along.
Guess what, real Americans are just the same.
The conflict isn't about atomic weapons, really. It is about conflicts in culture between the American view of liberty and freedom and self government and what we perceive to be a rigid theocratic government that is heavily influenced by islamic fascist.
I hope and pray that the voice of the people will be heard in both countries and that an armed conflict can be avoided.
I sound like a liberal dove a bit, but I'm not. I am perceptive though and realistic enough to know that if this conflict of ideas cannot be avoided that it will get down to a "them against us" situation and I will, perhaps like you, defend my own country to the death.
There is no honor in war, but there is honor amongts a people and there is honor amongst those that would defend a people.
I hope that the people of Iran can see beyond the rhetoric and understand that America is not trying to dominate in this situation.
I hope....

well true my friend.
There are many instances of war where the "westerns" were defeated by other nations
-> Americas defeat in Vietnam
-> Americas defeat in Somalia...what a shame
-> Americas inability to silence trouble in Iraq
....
But there is one thing. the movie producers want to make $$$, do you think they will make a lot of money by making movies of the above historical events. No. To make $$ you have to come up with some kind of history that is related to current events.
Now Iran is in dispute with America and western countries. What better time to show a movies about a battle between Perssia and Westerners ?
Even though majority of the crowd despites and is angered or cheered by the movie, the main idea is to make more money by making a controversial movie or a movie at a controversial time.

I haven't seen the movie, but as others have pointed out, I believe most Americans will see it as simple entertainment.
We aren't Spartans, nor are we Persians - but we, as Americans, love the story of the "little guy" wining. You'll see the theme of people overcoming incredible odds in thousands of American films and books.
I'll just say if the story was reversed - if it were the Persians that just had 300, Americans would probably like the movie just the same because it would still be story of the "little guy winning."

I don't think it has anything to do with Iran.
We like historical epics and we like war movies with hand to hand combat.
That's why every few years we get one.
There was Braveheart, there was Gladiator - we love that stuff. That's why the History Channel and Military Channel and other "learning" channels' depictions of the Huns, the Mongols, the Visigoths, the Celts, all capture our imaginations.

Considering these Persians are not the modern day Islamics of Iran and The Spartans are not the Modern Greeks NOBODY has made any connection.

It is a remake of the original "300 Spartans" made in the 60s or so. (excellent film)
Gladiator and Troy did so well, Holly-weird wants to capitalize on more "period" movies.

300 got produced because Sin City was successful. Frank Miller wrote a comic book years ago and after his other creation (Sin City) made it onto the silver screen and made money, he decided to see if one of his other books could do the same.
The movie is about a comic book, not Iran. get over it.

It's a movie. It's entertainment. It has nothing to do with reality. Except for people who can't separate the two.
