What is it like where you live; do you all socialise together, do you just say 'hey' as you pass, or do you studiously ignore each other? What do you think of the 'sense of community' in your area, and how would you like it to be?

I know my next door neighbours well enough to pass the time of day with them - not bad for london, but we don't socialise together.

In any big city is very hard to just know your neighbour and i am sure that so many people just give up on that. Being in a relationship with someone that never really socialised during her teenage years i am heading for a very lonely time, cause where i come from life is about socialising, something i really miss.

My neighbourhood is completely awful. Nobody speaks to anybody, and when I have tried to strike up a conversation I get a mumbled groan in return, so now I don't bother. Its a shame really because where I come from their was always a sense of community. People always used to knock on the door for a chat and a coffee, or to borrow a cup of sugar. In fact we use to keep our doors unlocked because there was so much traffic. I think it would just be nice to know that somebody was around if you needed them, and what harm is there in saying hi on the stairs. Mind you I live in London now and I generally find it to be an aggressive city, full of rude people who are out for themselves only. Maybe I should move back to the country.

i pass the time of day, i'll b polite & helpful
but that really is as far as i'd like it 2 go.
i don't do parties, go shopping with or offer 2 do anything that i know i may not b able 2.
i keep all my neighbours at arms length, that's the way i like it.
we all have 2 live here & get on, getting on is easier when ur not in each others faces 24/7.

Most, but for a couple of people, I only know on a 'hi' basis.
Two families are very good friends, & my immediate neighbour I don't speak with/acknowledge at all, 'cos she's a fanatical jebus freak who tries to push her ideas onto others..

my next door neighbour built a bridge between our gardens so it would be easier for him to bring us over his surplus homegrown fruit and veg. we bond over our dogs (specifically, how my dog eats his dog's dinner all the time).

we get on fine.
