My niece went through that and didn't really do it until she was about 14 months. There was nothing wrong with her, she just was a late bloomer. She is now almost 3 and perfectly healthy and not behind in her milestone at all. It took her about a year and a half to really get to where she was doing everything on target for her milestones. She even got teeth later than normal around 8 1/2 or 9 months! I wouldn't be to worried...but I know, you are a mommy! I have two little ones of my own, and the doctors just asking if they do this or that gets me wondering if they think something is wrong and why they are asking it! Good Luck!

Of course you are going to worry, that's what we moms do! Has your baby met his other developmental milestones? If it's just one thing, that doesn't seem concerning. My 2nd child did everything "late." She is now 11 and is brilliant. She will never be an athlete, though. She is just not strong, her muscles seem somewhat flacid. I've always wondered if her delay in holding her head up, rolling over, sitting up, and crawling were because she just wasn't strong enough (she was a plump baby).

My eight month old still can't sit up on her own so I bought her a bumbo which strengthens the back muscles and she is doing better. Just dedicate time each day on working on them sitting up. I sit behind her and she supports herself for a bit then topples or leans so I reposition her. I spend up to 30 mins at a time doing this and have seen gradual improvement. Some babies just need more time.
