Reduce adoption fees and ask for a donation instead. A 50# bag of dog food would allow the dogs that are still there to eat. See if any charities would be willing to help by selling raffle tickets for someone who would want an adoptable animal. I too have never paid for a dog or cat. There are enough free dog/cat to good home ads in local paper to help keep strays off the street. Good luck with your canine companions. Steve

Word of mouth... Just keep telling everyone you can. I have a pure bred Siberian Husky that a novice breeder gave up because he was the runt of the litter. He's THEE most loveable dog I've ever had, and the only husky that I know that can be trusted off the leash. :)
Unless you have lots of money to donate.. you could have an adoption event at a local community park. Summer time is a prime time to adopt pets because all the children are out of school :)

I have worked with rescue groups and have rescued many off the streets. I have never bought a dog cause I have always had too many dogs that needed a home.
At two separate times I was given a Great Danes. Both rescue places said that they could not find homes for a dog that size and since I was a canine specialist and used to large dogs they just gave me the Danes. One was JJ and the other was Boxcar. They both lived out their lives with me.
I inherited a female Peke that was 20 yrs old when the founder of Peoples Anti Cruelty Association (PACA) died. I took her to the vet to get her teeth cleaned and pulled and she only had one good tooth in her head and I had the vet pull it. She lived 4 more years with me. Went blind, lost her hearing and had no teeth.
I have gone over board on rescuing dogs and have had Animal Control in the middle of my *** wanting to know which dogs they could take away from me. But, fortunately I knew the head of animal control and I got away with it. Some of the dogs I kept and some I found homes for.
My mother rescues cats, one of my sisters and her daughter are into wild life rescue and rescue dogs off the streets get them medical attention, spay/neuther and find homes for them.
I feel that we are doing our part in this and we are pretty proud of our ability to rescue, care for and find homes. We think we are doing quite well.

All the people I know who would adopt, can't anymore. I have as many as we can take care of, unless you want me to stop being able to pay for basic needs or emergency visits to the vet, just to bring home more. The cost of living is going up, and I'm having problems just keeping up with what we got. That includes why I don't give money to organizations to help with animals. I put it in my savings account so when one of mine needs a $600.00 surgery, I can pay for it.

i think getting people to the animal shelter might make them want to take one of those cute little things home. I think seeing the actual thing might be a lot more effective than reading literature on why they should adopt one.

I volunteer with a local no kill shelter. You can work at adoption clinics or just take the dogs on walks. Anything you do helps.

I'm volunteering by re-vamping my local animal shelter's identity for free. I'm designing any print they may need, brochure, in-house information, even door tags for animal control.
In my everyday life, I just tell anyone who wants to know or who is thinking about getting a pet.

Some people don't like pets, but you can always advertise that you have pets available. People have a lot of other things on their mind and may forget
