If its taking over her life then yeah Id be well pissed! It sounds almost like an unhealthy obsession to me!
have you tried talking to her.... explain that she can watch the matches on repeat - or record them or something? Then she can head out with you AND see her footie!
although how any woman can be interested in it is beyond me... however each to their own!
xx

This does seem a silly thing to cancel a night out for. Are you sure this is the reason? Does she have money problems or something bugging her and she is using this as an excuse? If not, and she really loves her football that much, then she needs to realise that you lot will give up the contact with her and she will be all alone and I should think that football will not replace the friendship's she will lose. Gently explain to her that sometimes friends are more important but you will not keep giving and getting no receiving and that one day you may not be there.

I had a friend that wouldn't go out if the Soaps were on, it does not help matters that there is so many of them on all the time!!! At least with sport you can arrange to 'join' the lads supporting the games in the bars etc, well thats what I do, always makes for a great night, esp if Internationals are on, (like this weekend)

I think cancelling at the last minute for football is rude, but I don't see why she shouldn't watch it if she wants. There are plenty of times the football is on- make her check next time before you arrange a night out so you won't be dissappointed, or suggest she meets you at the pub and you watch it together? It's not just about the football, it's the atmostphere, and then you can carry on your night out once it's over

Being infatuated with sports is okay for ladies. But your mate definitively was not behaving ladylike. I hardly ever heard such a stupid excuse to stand up a friend at the last minute! Honestly, if sports are that important to somebody, you'd expect that somebody to know well in advance when the interesting games are going to be broadcast - and not arrange a night out in the same time. - It sounds to me like your friend was more into not going out with you, than watching her sports.

I bugs me when there is no balance and yes, there are times you want to stay and in, cuddle or just watch television in separate rooms - but for the most part there is a great big world out there and I say discover it and if your friend does not want to go, go with some other friends. First though check out what is really going of because it could be sign of depression or something else...

What if you snubbed her to go a night out instead of go round and watch the footie with her you cant have your way all the time she likes the footie so leave her alone and you change your plans for her for a change and go round and do something she likes doing

I've never been in this situation, regarding the footy on t.v. If she is that much into it, why not have a girls' night at her place?
If watching footy isn't your cup of tea, then go out with the rest of the girls and leave her to watch her favourite sport.

Not at all, I would have been more organised than your friend though and known that the football was going to be on the telly and not arranged to go out on that night in the first place!!

I have to agree with you on this one......I'm a great believer in leaving this sport stuff to the men!!
Ladies have as much right to be interested in sports as men.......but I can't see how footy can be better than a good girly night out!
