Here's an article about how to identify a real diamond:

Real diamonds are sometimes set in 10K gold. 10 K is the lowest %age of gold and the diamonds set in this are usually small or of lower quality.

Most diamonds are set in 10K. The higher you go in Gold like 14 or 18K the thinner the gold is. Not sure if you look at a diamond how to tell if its real tho. You would probably have to take it to a jeweler or something as now a days the fake diamonds look so real.

First off... MOST DIAMONDS ARE NOT SET IN 10KT GOLD!!! Normally only very small diamonds or damonds of lower quality are set n 10kt. I worked in a Jewelrey store for over 2 years. If you want to check of your diamond is real then yes you can take it to a jeweler... or you can get a magnifying glass or jewelers loupe. If your diamond has black spots in it or thing that look like bubbles then yes it is real. If it is over a .25 and you can not see any spots (inclusions) then no it is not real. I tried not to use any jewelers terms to make this as easy to understand as possible. If it was a very nice diamond it would be set in at least 14kt gold and then you may not see any spots but with a10kt mounting you are going to see something!!!

*Just because your diamond has inclusions doesnt mean it is not a nice ring. Most diamonds do have them unless you are planning to pay at leasst 1000 for a small diamond. Mine is a 2 1/4ctw with a 1 1/4 center and we paid 10,000 for it and it still has small inclusions... It is also set in 18kt wg!

I have a ring that's aquamarine and diamond chips set in 10k white gold. So yes, I think that's possible.

I know real diamonds will cut glass, cubic zirconia won't. I've never really tried this though.

Real diamonds will scratch glass. That is one way to know for sure.
