Time reports some initial successes for the surge in Iraq. I guess the media can't focus on the negative all of the time...

Anyone else hopeful that we might actually find success? That would really take the wind out of the sails of the whining nay-sayers.

W. Hill - valid point. It is the last reason to hope for success. Citizenship over partisanship is my motto. Too bad others have abandoned the idea.

Kinder (what a misnomer for your name) Intelligence involved making objective points. The only "facts" you present are easily disprovable. Most Iraqis liked it better when Saddam was in power? Read the facts don't just report what you hope to be true.
I guess next you'll say most Jews wish Europe were still under Nazi control.

First of all. good job beating back your nay-sayers by posting your military experience. . . . OUTSTANDING !!
Secondly, the Liberal media has been dropping inconspicuous hints about the surge success . Almost like picking up a ball and dropping it over and over again. . . only to find that it keeps bouncing right back at ya !!
But they've been reluctant to tell the whole story . So far, several users have made this same attempt to get the Liberals to acknowledge the truth, but have come up empty-handed . Well, the truth is the truth is the truth is the truth.. . ... ... .. . I'll stop for now, and check how many Honest Liberals have answered this !!!
EDIT*- I found 1 Liberal who almost acknowledged the TRUTH and then a pack of wild animals hellbent on denying the truth at any cost !! Enemy #1 = Al Queda. .Enemy #2 = You guess !!

Well, I'm not a conservative, but I hope beyond hope that the current plan will work. I don't believe it will, I'll be honest. But I would welcome success, as all Americans would I believe. I'm concerned by the reports though that say the commanders on the ground are of the opinion that the militant insurgents that pulled back are regrouping for the purpose of planning large scale attacks on the small bands of soldiers left in those areas that are showing some success. I hope they are wrong. Also, there are reports that though the violence has been curbed where we have left a presence, it has increased outside of that scope. That sort of trade-off is not good IMO.

You guys have it wrong. You think democrats and moderates want us to fail in Iraq? I myself hoped that the situation would get better. But after 3 years of avoiding the issue by Bush we have to go another route. Now he wants to throw a band aid at one city. But most don't realize that Iraq had a government before Saddam. When he took power he sent most of the government through the wood chipper. And puppet governments like Batista in Cuba have been proven to be ineffective. I think if we stay there 5 years or 25 years, the minute that we leave the guy with the biggest sword will eventually take over. It has been that way there for centuries. How many strong governments in the middle east were voluntarily elected? The people there don't have the same ideals westerners have and democracy hasn't really meshed well with their ideologies.
We can't allow our government to continue to pump our money into Iraq just to police Baghdad 24/7.

As to the Time article, I am pleasantly surprised. I guess sometimes, facts overwhelm agenda's.
I heard a report this morning indicating that the early indications on the effectiveness of the surge are positive...but that we really won't know anything definitive until this summer.

This war has been going on for over 4 years and this is the best ya got? Finally, initial successes? Interesting how you're able to focus on an article that agrees with your politics. I guess you didn't read the part that said " Granted, amid the smoke and carnage swirling around Baghdad, it's way too soon for conclusions. Any assessment at this time could be overturned with the next huge truck bomb or mosque attack."

We have found success to an extent. Saddam is finally where he belongs! Our military has done an outstanding job - many key terrorist leaders have been captured or killed. We are building schools. So yes there has been success & will continue to be!

Success would be great for the sake of the US troops, world peace, the security of Israel, not to mention for the daily lives of the Iraqis. Saying "I told you so" to "whinners" you know should be your last consideration.

I really don't see it. George Bush is ignorant of foreign affairs and is basically a bull in a china shop. Blair has proved by his deceptions and his wilful neglect of our over stretched troops that Labour is unable to run a war. Blair, who was a member of CND 20 odd years ago is hardly an inspiring figure albeit that he has turned into a warmonger. They don't seem to have a clue and have obviously never heard the old adage that when you are in a hole don't dig even deeper.

I SEE BY A LOT OF THE ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTION YOU HAVE HIT A NERVE WITH THE LEFT. THE LIBERAL PRESS ALSO IGNORES THE SUCCESS OF THE KURDS IN NORTHERN IRAQ.

'Whining nay-sayers'?
Get real, Einstein!
This was a war started on fabricated 'evidence' of WMD's and terrorist this-and-that, and then when that blew up in their faces, they changed the story to 'liberating the Iraqi people' - so that Bush and his buddies could get rich off of the oil there. Period.
Tens and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi people being killed (see: civilians), tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers being killed (see: defending their country from invaders), and the thousands of Americans being killed and maimed. FOR OIL!!
BLOOD MONEY!
And you have the gall to call the intelligent ones 'whining nay-sayers'?
Most Iraqis liked it better under Saddams rule!!
All that this 'surge' is going to do is kill more people on all sides.
