There are many players capable of doing what Kobe can, but it's only Kobe who's doing it. That must mean he's somewhere up there. Kobe is one of the greatest. That's a damn fact.

I believe that Kobe is the best scorer in the NBA, bar none. As for the best player, I think there are a few that are better.

Lebron James has a better all-around game, yet his FT% is terrible. He, like Kobe, carries his entire team though.

Dirk is the heart of the Mavs and can put up over 50 points if he took enough shots, but he passes the ball to open three point shooters when he posts up.

Nash has done phenomenal and his mere presence on the court makes the players around him play better.

Hell, Dwayne Wade is one of the best, if not the best clutch shooter in the NBA right now. Sure, Kobe has made more clutch shots in his career, but Wade has taken his team on his back in games and scored 19 straight points. He knows how to draw the foul under the basket, and you just know the shot is going in too. Too bad he got injured.

I would say that Kobe is the best player in the NBA if he didn't average over 34 shots per game for those three games. I'm of the firm belief that scoring isn't everything. Hell, with the percentages that Nash averages with shooting, if he shot as much as Kobe, he'd actually score more points a game. It simply isn't his job though, since he's a "pass-first" point guard. Kobe could have won the MVP if he had done this maybe 20-30 games back. If he had kept his team at least close to being considered an elite team, he might still be in the running for the MVP award. As it is, every analyst and NBA retiree has said the same thing: "A little to late". Dirk and Nash have already made this a two player deal for who the best in the NBA is, but simply being amazing all season long and leading their teams to the top 2 spots.

Sadly, Kobe's team did better during the games that Kobe wasn't playing in the beginning of the season. They came out and dominated teams behind Lamar Odom and Luke Walton. It just seems that the team has grown dependant on Kobe again and it's up to Kobe to win games (again). Until Kobe can make the players around him play better, instead of worse, I can't consider him the best player in the NBA. Best scorer? Most definitely. Best player? Not yet.

Anybody could score 50 points if they shot the ball 37 times a game. He only had 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Can you say ballhog? He shoots the ball 3 times as much as any of his teammates.

I don't think he's the best player in the league.
Steve Nash is better. Why? Well, just because you step up and score 50 in 3 straigt games, and win (against crappy teams), dosen't really make you alot better, not that he is bad i think he's No.2 after Nash, because Nash really makes he's teamattes much better, and he is an unbealivable passer, best in the L. He just might be the best shooter and ballhandler as well.

Kobe is the greatest "offensive" player of all time. Yes, even better than MJ. But, Kobe does not play much defense anymore. I feel its justified that someone like Nash is considered MVP. By the way, I am a huge Laker fan.

He's is the greatest playing right now, most complete and killer instinct. But a lot of great players don't get championships and if Kobe doesn't win another without Shaq it will be said he only won championships because of Shaq's dominance....because Shaq has gotten 3 different teams (Orlando, Lakers, Miami) to the finals and won with 2 of them. Kobe's only won with Shaq....!!!!!!!!!

Pretty hard to argue with 50 per game.

Hi Matt i think he is getting to be a little bit of a ball hog but yeah pretty close to the top. Remember that defense is just as important as offense. But still if he really was he would get MVP like Dirk will get it!
