All Kobe haters are jealous that's why. Seriously, though, I think that the mass that follows the NBA are not yet ready to replace Michael Jordan. Indeed, I find it hard to dethrone him in my list. He is the 1 and only. The hate for Kobe has become ridiculous, though. They are too insensitive of the circumstances. I think Kobe is AT LEAST in the top ten scorers list.

Anybody could score 50 points a game if they took 37 shots a game. That's three times as much as any of his teammates. He's a ballhog. I'll admit, he's a great scorer, but I'm tired of everybody thinking he's the best player in the NBA. 50 points a game is good, but 5 rebounds and 4 assists doesn't even put him in the top 10. I wouldn't want him on my team because he's too selfish and once they get in the playoffs where teams actually play defense, they won't be able to outscore opponents by feeding Kobe. Last nights score was 121-119, and that was against the Grizzlies. What happens when they play the Spurs who have shut Kobe down before?

Wilt averaged over 50 points a game for an entire season.
Michael Jordan has averaged over 37 points a game in a season. Hell, the Big "O" averaged more than Kobe. Until Kobe can keep up his high scoring for an entire season (and 30-32 points a game isn't up there yet), he isn't one of the top 4 or 5 scorers of all time. He played three great games in a row, but you have to consider the competition. The Blazers, Wolves, and Grizzlies? I'd give him more respect if he could do it against teams like Dallas, SA, and Houston. Some team with good defense.
Not to take away from his accomplishment, because damn if I could score that much in any game, let alone three in a row, but he was playing sub-par (read: crappy) teams. That's why most people still consider Mike's 61 points in the playoffs as more spectacular than Kobe's 81 points vs. Toronto last year.
*For those of you that bring up the Dallas game last year, look at the stats. It was a horrible game for Dallas. They were playing like the Celtics of this year. They shot 37%, were outrebounded, and let 6 players other than Kobe shoot 50% or better. You might attribute 62 points against Dallas to great shooting. I attribute it to 25 free throw attempts and bad defense. If he can pull that off against a team that is playing good defense, I'll be impressed.
A lot of it is negative feelings toward Kobe, and not because of his scoring ability. Many people discredit the accomplishments of Kobe because of the rape allegations, feuding with MVPs (Shaq, Peyton, Malone), his inability to share the spotlight with another superstar, his comments about players after some games, and more recently the three elbows to people's faces during this season. I've asked people before what they thought of Kobe and the general response was, "F*cking rapist." Whether or not he went to trial for it, those allegations destroyed his image.
I feel that because of his bad image, no matter what accomplishments he achieves, people are going to downplay them to not being as great as they are. It's not because they are jealous (though that might play some part in it), but more that they don't want to admit that a "bad guy" has become the best scorer the NBA has seen for years.

100%, absolute best! If you can score 81 points in this day and age, with D and people your hight and taller, plus using distance rather then dunking 40 baskets, that has to prove that you are the best ever, so far. Wilt had nobody in the league that could guard him, like Shaq, - 80lb. Why can't Shaq do it??? MJ couldn't do it!!! Kobe is up there with some big names, but those guys are all done with and Kobe has like 10 -12 more years. If people would just realize that he dose the imposable, and get off the whole "rape" thing, they would see an MJ type player. Both MJ and Kobe cheated on there wives! Whats the difference, if it wasn't for that stupid money grubbing B*tch, no body would have known about it. I wish players were judged by there playing ability only and not there personal life!

Kobe's the Barry Bonds of Basketball. He has a huge amount of talent, but the guy isn't a team player, and a complete jerk.
I don't think that anyone should deny that he is one of the top 5 in the game today. Maybe even top 3 today.
But....
1. The guy can't carry a team to a championship by himself.
2. The guy is only concerned with his own stats.

People let the off court incident affect their view of Kobe the player. The man is an amazing player period. People seem to hold things against certain players. Michael Jordan has been married since 1989 but was in a paternity suit in 1991 because he slept with a woman during the time she conceived that year, but that just got swept under a rug and he offered her 5$million to keep quiet. Though he wasn't the father he still cheated on his wife. It really just comes down to people being Kobe haters. But each one of them would take Kobe on their favorite team in a heartbeat.

It's because he's not a likeable personality.
Look at Jordan, articulate, handsome, trademark smile
Look at Shaq, articulate, handome, trademark big smile
These guys have winning personalities to go along with their statistics.
Kobe just doesn't. I'm glad to see the networks giving him air time in an attempt to show himself differently from what people choose to remember him by... like not getting along with shaq, or that hotel worker incident. and he's trying too but he just doesn't have the personality for it.
Good ball player though.

ummmmm......cause he isn't? i mean, yeah, he's a great player but not the greatest. it's mostly just hype about him cause he's on the L. A. Lakers and Shaq is on the Heat now so they needed someone to really be their super star. Kobe was kinda before but he shared the spotlight then. not to mention he is a complete jerk.
peace

Know what's funny?
How people always miss his 62 against Dallas but mention he scored 81 against Toronto.
Hilarious. Cause we all know Dallas is a terrible team. -_-
