My 6 month baby has a cold and is on medication from the doctor. It is really concerning us that she will not take her milk. We have tried water as well but she is just not taking her bottle. She seems fine and active otherwise. Can anyone offer any advice?

She may have a sore throat. I always gave my little one something warm to drink to soothe the throat. Also, my pediatrician tells me that milk thickens the mucous in the respiratory tract and other forms of nutrition are better when baby has a cold.
She may also have on coming ear infections.... my daughter won't suck from a bottle if she has either of these ailments.
Hope she gets better soon!

I've had that happen when my kids were sick, but if the baby takes no nourishment for more than eight hours, I'd be concerned. If she still hasn't eaten by a couple of hours before the doctor's office will close, I'd call and let them know what's going on so the doctor can check that the baby is okay. Otherwise you'll be stuck worrying all night and if things get worse you'd have to bring her to the hospital.

Don't be concerned about her not eating food when she is sick. But you do want to make sure she is getting fluid. If she won't drink water, try some pedialite. It is much better for them than water. If she won't take a bottle try a little on a spoon. Just don't let her go more than 6 -8 hours with no fluid. At that age then can dehydrate very quickly especially when they are sick. And if all else fails, trust your instinct. Parents instinct are almost always right. Good luck!

Don't worry. A 6 month old who misses a meal or 2 will be ok. Just think how uncomfortable it is for her to drink with a stuffy nose. Is she on cereal or jar food? If so, try that. Mix the cereal with the milk so she is getting the nutrition. I wouldn't worry too much unless she goes for a few days with no food or liquids. Also, if her behavior changes, call the doctor immediately.

If her nose is stuffed up then it will be very hard for her to drink from a bottle. Have you tried feeding her from a spoon some fruit or cereal? If she won't eat its fine for a day or two, just make sure she gets her vitamins. If the no appetite goes on longer than 2 days I would call the pediatrician.

Is she eating otherwise? My son got sick when he was 3 months old and could only keep water down. Since he was ok till 10pm, I thought it would be ok till he got to the doctor in the morning, I thought water would prevent dehydration and otherwise he would be ok till morning.

Just plain water isn't enough for a baby. His blood sugar dropped dangerously by 9am and he was admitted to the hospital for 3 days. When his blood sugar dropped his body temp dropped to 94 degrees F, he was unresponsive when I got him to the hospital from the doctors office. He was much better the next day, but they kept him for observation and to make sure he could keep fluids down on his own.

Well, thats normal. I know its scary, but its normal. When you are feeling sick, do u wanna eat?? not always! is she on antibiotics? if so, sometimes, it can give a lil tummy ache, and some runs, but thats what antibiotics do. And at that age, its a hard to give her vitamins, or other foods with vitamins. I dont think you can give a 6month old Yougurt yet! but, if u find out u can, give her some, cuz IF she is on antibiotics, that "Acidophilus" in the Yougurt, will help!
Ps. Keep tryin the water, u wanna make sure she keeps urinating! if not she can become dehydrated!

She will survive one day without food. Try giving her some in a spoon. If she still will not eat by tomorrow then take her to hospital.

call the doctor and ask them what they suggest. I suggest something sweet which may or not may not be good for the baby.
