I have been a temp since 10/30/06 and everytime I talk to HR to discuss me becoming permanent, I hear some complaint that my boss never brought to my attention. For a while I thought it was someone else on my team talking to HR but then that person left and I found out it was my boss. I have worked my butt off to make him happy. I admit that I am not perfect but I really try very hard. Recently, before his last chat with HR, I asked him if there was anything he wanted to discuss or any problems he wanted to address. He looked me right in the eye and said "No, not at all". I said "So we're good?" and he said Yes!. A few days ago, I spoke with HR and she has a list of gripes he reported to her but NEVER discussed with me. Now I am being moved to another dept., if there is space. HR didn't want to tell me but she felt bad. He has no idea HR told me and he has not said anything to me on his own. I have 2 kids to support and he knows that. Should I talk to him about this or keep shut?

Only one problem is partly objective. I get in around 9:15 in the morn. Now when I first started this was fine by him and we have never discussed it since. I am not sure when it became a problem but apparently it is. The other stuff is just him being a diva. For instance, he doesn't like it when I go to get b'fast, 2 floors down, when I get in. First I am hearing of this problem since 10/06..Stuff like that.

If you are being moved to another department anyway, write him off as a lousy boss and let it go. If you're going to be stuck with him for a while, let him know you're on to him by confronting him (professionally) about your discussion with HR.

Try something along the lines of, "George, when you and I spoke a few weeks ago and I asked you for performance feedback, you told me you had no complaints. Last week when I spoke to HR, she provided me with a list of issues that you brought up to her but had never addressed with me. I really want to meet your expectations, but I'm not sure how to do that if I can't get honest feedback from you."

Then look expectantly at him and watch him squirm while he figures out how to get out of this one.

Good luck.....

Are you working through an Agency? If you are talk to the staff coordinator, now if you are not then he is putting excuses.
Why did he not tell you about the complaint? He does not seem to be professional and responsible. Now if you are working through an agency then the coordinator should of told you how long your temp to hire job was going to be. Sometime employers get discourage to soon, they expect the temp to be on time, not miss and not to have any personal problems during work time. It is like you are trying something before you buy, I know that sound mean when it come to a human but, it is true. If that is happening during the first 3 months then he might be thinking about it twice if that is not the case and you are working in the company as a temp, then you might want to consider another job. Who knows the other job might be your perfect job with great benefits and a great salary. Good luck.

Sounds like it's time to find a new job. If you can't, go ahead and talk to your boss. In fact, try to set up a meeting with your boss and your HR person. Don't expect any miracles but it can't hurt unless you allow them to push your buttons to the point that you lose control. Also, try to take an objective look at the complaints that your HR person shared with you, are they valid and objective or are the complaints arbitrary and subjective? Sometimes it is policy to keep wage costs down when they feel they can get away with it.

You don't want to work for a boss that is scared of confrontation. You should just wait to transfer to a different department and see how that works out for you. On a different note, HR shouldn't be discussing these confidential matters with you. It sounds like that company needs revamping from the top down......good luck!

It doesn't seem like you're really going to be happy in that sort of environment, anyway. My suggestion would be to take the move to another department, and see how that works for you. Is it possible to ask your temp agency for a different assignment? Maybe you just need a change of scenery.

Look for another job, then leave with the skills they gave you have in your pocket !

...This works great for teaching employers to invest in their employees, because of the costs to RETRAIN and HIRE another person to do the exact same work you're doing !!!
