In the real corporeal world it's called a doppelganger. You have stated however it was an apparition, were you asleep at the time, or maybe daydreaming, or lost in thought? If that is the case it is called bi-location. You are in two places at the same time. "Gifted" folk work to do this. Apparently you didn't even have to try. Has this happened before?

And then again, could this person be "pulling your leg" (teasing you)?

This could be several things.

One, a doppelganger; which is just as well that your friend saw it and not you. Had you seen your own doppelganger, it would be a harbinger of death for both you, and your doppelganger. A doppelganger is basically your "evil twin"; the two of you should never meet.

Now, since it was your friend who saw it, and not you, that could either mean danger, or illness; so, happy fun joy for them! Check in on your friend regularly and focus on happy thoughts and feelings, least you call disaster into your space from your own fears.

Depressed yet? Well here's a second, and much happier possibility. Depending on what time of day or night your friend saw your apparition, and if at the time you were asleep or otherwise not conscious; that apparition could actually have been you! Astral projection is the ability to leave your body and travel any where at any time to visit anybody. A very use full skill if mastered.

A third option; your friend is psychic. Their mind's eye saw your apparition, and that was a signal to contact you right away. Why? Well, that depends on what was happening to you at the time.

Fourth option, you're the one who's psychic. You were either thinking of this person, or calling for help in some way; thus this person picked up your signal and actually saw you.

Sometimes that's used as an expression to say someone "hasn't been himself." Elvis Costello had a song where he says "there's stranger in my house, and he looks like me" but it really meant he didn't understand the way he was acting. There's at least one other song that uses a similar theme, it was a Country singer but I can't remember who it was.

Do you astral project? Have a twin that has passed over to the other side? Your friend is hallucinating?

I've heard a number of accounts of this sort of doppleganger, and in most cases they don't seem to mean anything, they just are.

This is called a doppleganger.

These do bad things to get their counterpart in trouble.

It's means they have quite the active imagination, because ghosts aren't real.
