Look at the economy for your answer. The international markets, especially the oil markets, are going from petrodollars as a medium of exchange to euros. Look at our trade deficit, and the number of manufacturing jobs that are in the US. Compare the amount of our debt in foreign hands now as opposed to 1990, 1980, 1970. Then you will have your answer.

It depends how you measure decline, Empires fall from within and by that virtue the US is still the most powerful wealthiest country thats every existed.
However factors like the military and economic ascension of China, the European Union increasingly acting in concert and the erosion of political and moral capital caused by the fall out of of the Iraq conflict mean that the US has less freedom to act unilaterally than it once did.
The Roman Empire withered away as a series of endless conflicts at its borders and corruption within them took their toll. And the British Empire vanished as its colonies , fairly simultaneously, realised they could be independent.
Either could happen to the US but it will take quite a long time.

We are going downhill very fast. I would say our peak would be at the Reagan years. From then on we have been declining at a rapid speed. And we have the GOP and DEMs to thank for that.
