Yesterday I read an article in Essence magazine where a DL man said that to attract men, he'd wear designer labels. In my mind, clothing is of no indication, but it seems to be in this community. Does anyone have any idea if there are "DL labels" to let other men on the low know that someone is open for homosexual activity? As a straight woman, I'd like to be armed with as much info as possible.

Someone asked why I wanted to know. I just wanted to know for the sake of information. I was surprised to see this man refer to a type of dress for DL men. As stated, and as everyone pointed out, to me, gay or DL people dress the same as straight people. It's just that this man said that to attract men he wore something different than what he did to attract women and that they were designer labels. I went online and found a website where urban designer labels are sold. The name of this company is Down Low urban something or other. Anyhoo, thanks for your replies people. Either way it goes, women need to be careful and these men need to be honest.

They dress like any other man in their community, in keeping with their being "down low" as opposed to "out and proud".

well they would not wear the rainbow, remember they're on the down low.
The man on the down low would dress as a straight man to keep up the image that he doesn't play around. The play part is on the gay man testing waters to see who would bait. Most gay men are into fashions so designer labels would catch their attention. Designer labels also says money. I agree clothing should not be an indication for that type of play. I'm sure there are some not so dressed men that play around on the D.L.

Men on the down low psyche is they don't want to be identified as such but on the other hand would want the target market to know that they are open for homosexual activity... There are probably designer clothes that cater to their needs but they are not very popular - more like the secret men on the DL keep in order not to be found out.

DL look like any other man on the street, regardless of what they are wearing. But no matter what, even your man is not on the DL, stay protected because they're dumb cowards who won't tell you that they've f*cked around with men unprotected, and then you end up with the virus!

DL dudes dress just like a straight dude, to portray a masculine image. The whole idea behind being a DL brotha is to not ever be suspect! for you, a straight woman, it can be tricky!
