recently a.t.i have released the radeon x1950 pro, this is basically a agp card with all the specs of most pci-express cards around today
with a core clock of 580mhz and a memory clock of 1400mhz this card can run any game you throw at it,and with 36 pixel pipelines(consider that most agp cards come with around 4 to 8 pipelines)this adds to the shear power of this card
you need to make sure you have a decent power supply(at least 400watt)as this card requires a 5v molex connector, and also this is quite a big card in agp terms so make sure it will fit in your case
the x1950 also comes with pixel and shader model 3.0 / open gl 2.0 / direct x 9.0c
last but not least this card is also vista compatible
the only negative side is the price,£144,but trust me its worth every penny
take a look at http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=521950
good luck

CPU Ram and GPU (photos processing unit, ie photos card) all play a factor in gaming, whichever is the worst would be your bottleneck. this implies in case you have the final GPU and hundreds of RAM, yet your CPU is awful, your gaming would be held down because of the fact of it. on the 2d a marvelous equipment might have CPU: center 2, >2GHz RAM: 2+Gb GPU: pass a 8 or 9 series nVidia (pref 9).

an AGP card may last only another year. you will have to get a PCIEx16 motherboard and card pretty soon.

probably the 512MB Sapphire X1950PRO at the moment - just be aware that this a large graphics card and needs extra juice from a good PSU
