I've decided that it would be best for me to drop-out of high school due to current situations concerning my family. As much as I enjoy the people, I'm terrible in school, I find it difficult, and it's just all-around a hassle because I'm sick all the time. I have a job currently and I am sixteen. I live in Nevada in the Clark County district, but I was wondering what are the laws for dropping out in the area. I'm asking to see if it's possible not to get my mom involved. Honestly, I know this isn't the greatest choice, but when I can I would be more than willing to attend a night school or other type of class to ensure that I have some kind of future.

If anyone has any tips on the matter, please share, I would be very thankful.

As much as I am still considering staying in school, I would really think it would be helpful for tips and stories instead of please-stay-in-school! I know it's a bad choice, but I am merely attempting to get the other side of the topic. Please respect my wishes and shed your opinion if you have tips whether it's night school, or alternative schooling, etc.

I understand that school is hard, and for some kids dropping out feels like the only answer.

In our area there is a school for kids like you. Classes are set up differently, the hours, the schedules, everything is designed for kids who didn't do well in other schools, who have jobs or children, and who just can't attend school full time.

Check it out. Maybe there is a school like this in your area.

How do you plan on getting your GED? You will still need to know material from 11th and 12th grade. If you are willing to take the GED, you might as well stay in school. If you can't make it through High School, what makes you think you will make it through college? That is if they even accept you. You should look into that to make sure you don't drop out, and then they have an age requirement for you to attend, and you would be still lounging around for a year or two, working fast food jobs. If you parents still let you live with them, and if you were my child, you wouldn't be living with me being a high school drop out, you could be forced to get a job, and pay bills, then good luck going to college. If you can't make it through high school, and trust me, I thought I wouldn't get through either, but I hung in there and graduated. Its not that difficult. And you could get the right amount of credits, if you try. You are convinced you can't get through, but there are people to help you out there. If you are bored, take different classes. You are not going to get far on a GED.

I felt the same way at 16; and I did drop out. I went the next day and got my GED. That's my best advice. However, please know that this one decision will affect your life forever. I have been very fortunate and worked hard; and I now have a great job, with great pay and benefits. But I do feel I often have to lie about dropping out because of the judgment society will always place on you.

If there is any way that you can, stay in school. Without at least a high school education, you don't have a chance in life these days. And a GED is not the same as finishing school in terms of your well being and success. Go and talk with your high school guidance counselor. Tell her what is bothering you and what your situation is at home. She's there to help. Good luck to you--hang in there!

Please, please dont drop out of school!!! you will so regret it later! home schooling or correspondence is really tough and requires a lot, and i emphasise on a lot of self discipline and self motivation. procrastination tends to rear its ugly head and u can get too busy with other stuff that ure schooling gets put on the shelf and u neva actually get to it. education is not something that can be easily put aside for something else for a time. it is important and is key for your future! dont make the same mistake i and so many others have made. just see it through however many years you still have to go. you wont regret sticking it out in the end youll see! lol

Please don't drop out! You will limit your future and you will feel bad about yourself. Talk to your mom. Maybe she would be willing to homeschool you. Then you can graduate, you could work at your own pace, and you wouldn't have to worry about missing school when you are sick. There are a lot of good homeschool curriculums, look for some online.

Maybe your school has a program that could help you. In our state we have graduation completion centers. They are schools for kids who are at risk of dropping out. Talk to your guidance counselor.

I personally think that homeschooling is a great option.

*Stay in School.* You will enjoy many more benefits later in life (e.g., most jobs that pay decent rates require at least a high school diploma). Think of your kids later. What will their friends say when they learn their mom doesn't even have a h.s. diploma?

you should stay in school. just try to reconsider how you parents worked for you studies coz they do believe that education is the only irradicable thing they can give you.
education can lead you more than what is your present job. in fact, even graduate studes still study for promotions
