Before you go an change out the steering box.....try this.....lift your hood up and follow the steering column to where it meets your steering gear box. Now observe the u-joint or rubber bushing there and see if there is any free play. You might want someone get in the truck turn the key to release the steering wheel (with out starting the truck) and turn the steering wheel slightly back and forth while observing the U-joint or busing. Did you have some freeway or slack? This should take care of your problem if it is worn. Good luck.

Did you get your new tires speed balanced? If you didn't do that, nothing will help the wandering.

I'm assuming you did get the balancing. Drive it for a week or so and let the new ball joints wear in. Then, take it back to the shop and ask them to make sure everything is still tight. You should be under warranty for 3 months or so.

All that other work was wonderful work, but now it seems you must replace or rebuild the power steering box. The new pump is what gave me the clue... pressure is leaking past the proportioning valve and pushing it willy-nilly...
some can be adjusted for play, too.... saginaw boxes especially.

sounds like you have slop or creep in the steering gear. autozone.com has a great troubleshooting section that helped me with my 75 chevy. you may just need to tighten the steering gear easy to do yourself.

77 GMC's are known for their wondering qualities, my old one kept wondering about Global Warming so I got rid of it.

I'd be more concerned if it was wandering.
