You, obviously, have never had children. I'm not trying to be mean but if you've ever had a child (I've had two) you wouldn't question that statement.
It really does seem like just yesterday I was bringing them home from the hospital and now both my boys are in their early twenties.
They grow up so fast!

Your observation is correct! Human do grow slower than other animals!

Well I guess that the only explanation lies in the fact that Homo sapiens ( species of man ) is the most evolved species in the world. Our organs are extremely differenciated and specialized, our nervous system and brain are intensively developed.... So in order to get from the embryo to the complete adult, a lot of cell divisions and multipilication and differenciation and developement is needed, thus the apprx 20 years for full growth.

Actually, I believe the Elephant takes longer to reach full adulthood. Don't quote me on that.

It's the way nature decided to make us at birth. We are completely helpless without our parents, and with the capacity of our brain, it still takes us a long time to learn all the skills we need to survive and live our lives.

The slower we grow the longer we live.

As for children, they grow up fast only in retrospect.
