Its about an old woman going into a retirement home- although used in the film The Graduate it is not connected. It is from the album bookends which is about the plight of old people in the USA and how they are seen as useless. Joe DiMaggio was a baseball player who dated marilyn monroe, It could of been anyone mentioned but Paul Simon said he usd him as it was about syllables and stuff.

I saw a good movie on AMC called the graduate. The music was done by Simon Garfunkel. She was a middle aged woman who had an affair with her neighbor's kid, he just graduated from college. Jumpin Joe was one of Marylin Monroe's husbands. He was a famous ballplayer. The next guy and wikipedia are wrong. the alblum its from, is called the Graduate. If he really is the genius he thinks he is, he would know what Joe DiMaggio set a record for.
