Go to Auto Zone and get a rebuild kit. It should come with gaskets, and the check balls and metering valves and such. You soak the existing parts in parts dip, was with water, using a screen so you don't lose any small parts, and then reassemble, replacing any of the parts from the old carb with the new parts from the kit. A two barrel isn't that bad of a job. When you have finished, and readjusted the air/fuel mixture and it runs properly, you will have entered the company of home mechanics ! If it doesn't work...you can still swap out the carb. Good luck.

Your carb is an easy one to rebuild, just get the rebuild kit and follow the instructions. Soak your carb whole for about 2 hours before trying to take it apart this loosens any gunk around the screws and nuts so they don't get rounded and a very important thing to remember is to keep your vaccuum lines marked so you get the hooked back right. I have found that white out works really good for marking the lines. If your lines aren't hooked up right your car will run like crap. Other than that just follow the directions in the kit, soak the pieces seperatly as you get them apart and I always use a carb cleaner spray on the tiny pieces put them in a strainer and spray them this way nothing gets lost.

The kit will have the gaskets, a new fuel float and needle valve along with a few o-rings, etc. As long as you follow the instructions carefully, you will not have a problem.
Good luck

i own a shop and you need a real good cleaner to soak it in for about a day so that all the dirt actually gets cleaned out of it,then go by the instruction sheet they give you ,follow it right down to the last letter,on the page if you do that it will turn out real well,i do a lot of them and that sheet they have in there has all the specs on it,and if you,ll use it,you,ll do a good job on it,and it will run really good, hope it does ok good luck with it.

The needle and seat in the float chamber usually need replacing. Also, you can expect the jets and air bleeds (if removable) to need changing, as they might not be suited to the car any more.
