I have this job I like a lot...it has perfect hours and it works with my school schedules and it's pretty much awesome,...But my shift leader absolutely hates me...nothing I ever do is good enough for him even when no one else sees a problem with it...I don't want to loose my job and this is the only shift I can work. Any suggestions?

Talk to the shift leader. Say something like, "I feel like we've gotten off on the wrong foot here. I want to meet your expectations, and I'm not sure how to do that. I feel like you're unhappy with my work because (cite some examples here of when he was critical of your work.) Can you help me to understand where I'm falling short?"

Then listen to what he has to say. Just openign up the dialogue may make him more sensitive to what he's doing. You may also get some constructive feedback. Confronting issues head-on, but politely and with a professional attitude, usually results in the best outcome.

Good luck!

Answer yourself some questions. Why does he hate you? Are you talking on the cell phone while working? Are you getting personal phone calls? Do Friends look for you while you are at work? Are you being late to work, from lunch? I really do not think he hate you. He might hate the fact that you are doing something he dislikes. Go over what you might think he dislikes and try to change it. And remember, it is not about kissing butt to him, it is about being a great employee and a grate team leader. Good luck!!!!!

I see a few possibilities. First, this guy may not like you and is expressing it this way. The second is that he is trying to make you a better employee by pushing you harder. Lastly, maybe he likes you and is expressing it improperly. Under any condition, it is probably best to ask him directly. Remember be firm, but polite.
