just a few good sites to find a hotel you would like
my advice is to look at first 4 sites
as Prague is not that big as you are expecting, everything is within walking distance if you stay in city center
next to every hotel there is a map to explain the location
best locations are:
Stare Mesto - Praha1
Mala Strana( between Charles Bridge and The Castle)
Hradcany (Castle)
in that case you will be in the middle of the town, next to all historical sites, no taxi needed,no trams needed, shopping center also
when you make your choice, you can enter hotels sites directly and "fish" for the best price
will need a good town map and comfortable shoes
very cheap for shopping
restaurants and food very nice.prices too
boat trip not to be missed
very good and unique theaters:
http://www.laterna.cz/ - Laterna magica
http://animato.webpark.cz/engind1.htm - Black light theater

if you have time to study all these info, you will become an expert and you will move around like an old Prazak (local)
so,take some money
(local currency CZK-Czech Koruna )

take your family and friends
and
start your vaccation of a lifetime!!!!

Prague is among the towns worth-visit and to do that you can begin planning your holiday with hotelbye . Starting with the wonderful region round the Prague Castle or the Strahov monastery with its outstanding library and finish with …the whole marvelous town, Prague is simply incredible. In Prague you may also visit the small home wherever Franz Kafka worked or the attractive Prague Castle gardens from where you are able to like a unique view of the city with its picturesque red roofs. In this city you'll never get bored. If you will go through the spring you may find the spring woods in flower; in summer time you might find long dusks; autumn will give you colorful leaves and specific light and in the wintertime you will like the entire town covered with innocent bright snow.

Try www.tripadvisor.com for hotels. There are some good places near Wencesles Sq. which is quite central. Prague is a good place to do in a few days because of its compactness. For that reason it is quite easy to get around. The underground system is cheap and efficient. But if you are a good walker, you should be able to do a lot of the places on foot. E.g. one can easily walk from Charles Bridge to Prague Castle, some uphill bits but good views along the way. Get a good free map.
The boat ride on the river is worth the money. If you do it, you will see Fred and Ginger from the boat.
The exchange rate for £ was better than we could get in the UK. May have changed now, but there are many places that will change your £. Beware of people in plain clothes claiming to be police wanting to see your passport. Just walk away briskly. Try the local dish - sauerkraut and beef. Not much to write home about, but OK.

Prague 1 or 2 if you want to be in the centre of town, but can be expensive so choose carefully. I simply looked on the net and looked at the maps where hotels were located. Nice place to visit but so much to see, Charles Bridge and the clock are lovely. I was in CR for Christmas and we stayed in Karlovy Vary for a week (spa resort - beautiful)n then 2 days in Prague. It was freezing but all part of the Christmas atmosphere with hot wine punch and Christmas markets, lovely.

Choose any hotel/hostels that within Praha 1 or "Mustek" area.Pick a hotel thats close to "The Old town square" coz there is wer everything is.Restaurants, sex museum, bars..etc..Even if its Praha 2 , u'll prolly need to walk bout 30mins just to get into that area.So best choose close to the areas i've mentioned above.U can check the site below for more info. The site provides info on places of attractions , things to do..etc.Also u can also go on the "Yellow Umbrella tours" that they have daily at the old town square, they take u around the city showin u sights..etc.Tours cost 300 kc for adults (250 kc for students) They also have "Night trails" that shows u around the smaller streets at night, like a ghost trail. Dont forget to visit the tourist office close to Mustek area for more info on monthly activites,shows,concerts..etc.Good Luck & have fun! Cheers!
