Gun control only keeps weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizens. CRIMINALS will break the law to obtain a weapon. When you look at England, and Australia you can plainly see the increase in violent assaults, after gun control was enforced. Why dont we simply enforce the laws that we have already?

no, they dont understand that the only control will be from citizens. meanwhiles criminals get guns illegally. that means an average citizen is at risk when pulled by a criminal and has no means to defend themselves. Criminals will always find weapons. its up to us to defend outselves against them

I am a democrat, and a proud and responsible gun owner. The government needs to address why a 13 year old feels he needs a gun for protection in his own neighborhood. That is what ultimately needs to be stopped. I don't pretend to have all the answers to solve the problem. But poverty and gun crimes seem to go hand in hand. This is why the public education system is important. To provide the lower end with a chance to escape the cycle of violence.

Ultimately the gov needs to address how illegal weapons get to the streets. And not whether legal gun owners should have them or not. But at the same time there is no good reason for anybody to have high-powered automatic weapons in the general population. The only reason I can think for these types of weapons is to ward off an invasion. And I hope we don't have to worry about that anytime soon.

I hope this gives all of the angry, anti-liberal people above some food for thought. As I said before I am a Democrat, but I also do not blindly agree with every statement that fellow democrats make. Can the people above say the same about their party?

The reason for gun control is to figure out who are the lawful citizens and who are not. We have this in Canada, though it's not 100% effective due to the large influx of illegal guns from the USA.

But with a gun registry you can tell where a gun came from and who it belongs to, you can tell which gun was involved in a crime etc, there are all levels of gun control that to ignore in the USA, and you have the high numbers of gun crime to prove it.

It would also be nice if the people of the USA would be less willing to bend to the giant gun megacorps that keep pushing guns on them. And really who needs a semi-automatic to kill someone intruding into their home?

But maybe you're right, and I should become a citizen to get the right to bear arms, mind you I'd be going for a bazooka instead of a gun, I mean I'm law abiding, I'd only blow up the bad guys, and that's okay!

I've never had a problem purchasing a weapon nor securing a permit. (I grew up in the country, our parents taught us how to shoot).

Also, how would limiting gun control hurt criminals. Most get it on the street and would continue to do so.

When would you use a gun for protection? I've worked in the heart of the worst neighborhood in the S. Bronx for 3 years, never thought a weapon would bring me protection.

I agree. Gun control is against the Bill of Rights and is an essential part of what the founding fathers had in mind when writing an actual right for it.

They wanted average everyday citizens to be able to stand up and defend themselves and their families against enemies, Foreign and Domestic.

I agree. We DO need to enforce the laws we have.

Which makes me wonder why conservatives feel the need to have laws prohibiting gay marriage.

While I'm personally against drugs, you've made the argument that we shouldn't have anti-drug laws. Why not let law-abiding people buy, sell, and use drugs?

The reason we are guaranteed the right to bear arms is in case our government gets taken over by power crazed politicians, we are all part of the militia. You might want to clean and load your weapons

By definition, criminals don't follow the laws.

Liberals can pass hundreds more laws to add to the hundreds we already have, and they still won't figure it out.

Liberals ignore logic that interferes with the ideology that was spoon fed to them.

Gun control works in the same way car control works.

You don't see people refusing to own cars or drive just because they have to register the cars and get a drivers license.

Banning guns does not work. Sensible regulation does.

Because the police are not allowed to do their job for fear of hurting somones feelings and violating their right to commit crime. No, the Libs never learn anything. They cannot even learn new words to argue with, its the same old idiotic words that don't fit or make sense like neocon, fanatic, closed minded, lies, lied, and other negative adjectives.
