First quarter waxing or last quarter waning.
The three-quarter moons are either waxing or waning gibbous.
The crescent (or 1/8) moons are waxing or waning also.
So the phases in order are:
New
Waxing Crescent
Waxing Quarter
Waxing Gibbous
Full
Waning Gibbous
Waning Quarter
Waning Crescent
New...
Hope this helps!

It's called a Crescent. An example would be The Red Crescent in the Middle East which is the counterpart of The Red Cross. Since our Muslim brothers/sisters are not too crazy about the cross, they made a delicate substitute for the cross, the crescent. Muslim mosques have a crescent symbol above just like a Catholic Church would have a cross.

RE:
What is the correct name for the half-moon shape?
I'm trying to teach my little girl shape names. The half-moon shape I keep calling 'half-moon' :o) I'm assuming there must be a proper name for it. Thanks!

The proper name is Crescent only of it is a shaped like a C...
I believe a half moon shape would be a semi-circle, or half-circle.
If you're teaching her 3-dimensional shapes, I think it would probably be semi-sphere.

Quarter moon is correct, again, because it is one-quarter of the whole cycle (correct). There's the first quarter and the last quarter. Look on a wall-calendar that has moon phases listed -- you'll see.
give that lady, Beliver, 10 points.
