Wouldn't he have been more generous by selling them and using the money to build many more lower priced homes? Many more families would of benifited. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070323/ap_on_re_us/homeless_mansions

You brought up a very valid and good question and point. Journalist tones and inferences in the AP story of Kawamoto's "charitable" gesture DO seem to indicate there's something suspicious going on; I think AP reporters are asking the very same question and others as well....

Like: Do you expect a low income family will effectively cover the stratospheric utility costs that are "average" for these HUGE mansions?? One electric bill a month from now will engulf two months' salary---and that's only HALF the bill's cost(s)!!!

My thoughts; Kawamoto is clever and savvy---but he does NOT fool me. I only hope he intends to at least further help these people once he's done using them. THAT's something I feel we should watch out for.

I agree, but I still see this as a good deed. What he's doing is actually a lot more than what most people I know would do for the homeless. Either way, he's helping them out for 10 years and that's 10 years that they have a roof over their head. Those are his mansions and how he decides to use them are really up to him.

Its just a publicity stunt. The people living in the houses are supposed to pay the utility bills. LOL! If they were so poor as to be homeless, how are they supposed to afford that? Its BS.

why doesnt he donate all his money to the poor while he is at it?????? there is no pleasing some people is there? thats over 10 homeless people off the streets. the accomplishment of one man. i will say that is a pretty darn achievement if you ask me. now shut da hell up and quit yapping if you are not taking care of the homeless in your neck of the woods
