Do they forget? Or do they just need to be reminded when they see what they could be risking or losing? Do they forget that they love their spouse? Or are they just confused? I am not trying to condemn anyone and I hope none of the answers do, I am just curious.

I'm one of those people. In my case I knew I was unhappy but didn't know why. I watched happy couples and wished we could have that, but he wasn't willing to work on it, he thought everything was fine. I ended up meeting a guy in a very similar situation as mine and we had a short fling. He ended it because of his guilt, I got over it, we're still friends. The more I thought about this new guy, I realized that all he did for me was make me feel good, more attractive, but that was it. I knew there was no future in it, not that we were planning on that, but why throw all I do have away for absolutely nothing? My fling taught me some things about my self, my sexuality, and how to start working on my marriage. Would I say I am happily married now? I'm contendedly married, and that's better than being alone. He loves me, we have a good life, I realized I shouldn't ruin all that because I was selfish.

Because they think the grass is greener on the other side and then find out it if dry and brittle. The person who cheated copped out to find someone else instead of communicating with thier spouse what there wants and needs are. I do think men and women cheat for totally different reasons. I think some men will look at a woman and be attracted to her and cheat just to see how she is in bed very immature if you ask me. Women will cheat because they are not getting the attention and instead of communicating to thier husband they will go out with some guy who does give them attention and possibly an std as well. I do know that sometimes when a person cheats the person they cheated with probably told them to take a hike and that is why they probably go back to the safe place with the spouse. I would not put up with that and will never go back if my husband cheated.

I think the fantasy is always better than the "real thing". The think it's all going to play out like they fantasize and then it doesn't. The find out the sex at home was better and it was more relaxed. And I'd say it might be confusing to some; but, for others worth the risk because they feel like they're missing something. Who knows? Look at Haley Berry...most beautiful woman in Hollywood as far as I'm concerned, and she had a man who didn't do anything but screw around on her. Thank god she wised up! Godloveya.

They cheat because they love the thrill of the chase and the grass looks greener...
But, once reality sets in and they realize that this other person is just a regular person, they want the stability and comfort of their spouse back.

I've thought about it many times without acting on the impulse... The thought of being with someone other than your spouse seems exciting, however, you (or I) realize that your spouse is your rock and your foundation and you understand what that foundation really means to you. As a result you respect and cherish it more.

Actually them all of a sudden realizing they are happily married is a cop-out. They will cheat again when they think they can do it without getting caught. First time, second time, sometimes even the first 5 times you might get caught, after that you've learned how to do it without getting caught and therefore will do it again.

because people always think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and until they find out for themselves...well then they have cheated....the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence...just a different individual

maybe they find out grass is not greener on the other side but then its too late because the one that was cheated on can't trust him or her any more
