The cabinet is wood and about 3/4" thick, and there are several cords that will need room to exit in the back. I can't take it apart- I need to be able to get the hole cut/drilled with the cabinet assembled as is.
Bonus-- whatever tool you're recommending- is it something I should be able to rent at Home Depot or Lowe's?

If you got a drill, even easier.
You actually have a couple of options here.
One is you go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a hole saw, you'll probably want one thats about 1" to 1 1/2" wide. Its a round looking cylindrical cup with teeth at the opening, like saw, but in one continuous circle. Anyways... Just attach it to yer drill, and cut away. But sorry, no renting of that sorta tool as far as I know. They are'nt that expensive though. For that size, expect to pay between $10 and $15.
Another way to go about it is to use a combination of a drill and a scroll saw. You mark out the hole you want to cut. Then drill a pilot hole with the drill, use a bit thats big enough to fit the scroll saw's blade though 3/8" or 1/2", etc... Then with the scroll saw, you cut out the rest. Scroll saws they might rent, of course I'm not 100% certain on this as the only stuff I rent are larger tools like roto-tillers, wood chippers, etc...
But best of luck. And hey, at Lowes or Home Depot, if you dont have much in the way of power tools, you can actually pick up a decent set, Skill, Makita, Delta, etc... for under $60. Always good to have this stuff handy.

I agree with the post above - a cordless drill is THE tool to use - but I don't know if Home Depot or Lowes rents hole saws (in case you dont know what that is - its a round (circular) hollow drill bit that attaches to the drill - they usually come as small as 1/2 inch, and as big as 10 inches or more. BUT - they are expensive. If the place you rent the drill from does not also rent hole saws, you should be able to buy a spade bit (wide, flat bit with sharp point) for much less than having to buy a hole saw bit. Use a cordless drill and the smallest hole-saw needed for the cable bundle you are feeding though the hole! You CAN do it!! ;-)=

You just need a hole saw. Attaches to your drill. Very inexpensive. Can get one at any hardware store or big box.

a chain saw will do it very nicely or just stick your foot in there a kick a hole in it as it wont be seen anyway
