Empty the cache. Also, download and run spybot or something similar to make sure you aren't running something that you've picked up in the background. Defrag . . . . Run disc cleanup. Some of that ought to help.

Dell Dimension 2400-

So far much advice is correct, you do need to dump your temp internet files, your cache and cookies as well as any other temporary files you may not be using.

There is a program call crap cleaner-EXCELLENT freeware to use to start the process. Download and run that. Each person that signs on will need to run that under their profile(it also eliminates the programs that get hal-way uninstalled and leaves files behind). Also spybot and ad-aware are good to have installed and run on occassion

You also need to check to make sure you are not saving too much stuff to desktop-can make it load and run sluggishly.

Check you hard drive size!! It you are running out of space (you should have at least 2-3gb available ). Swap files require hard drive space to "temporarily" leave stuff so it is easier to find and quicker toaccess while you are using it.

Make sure you are not running unwanted or uneccessary applications in backround (taks manager -ctrl+alt+delete will tell you what is currently running). When you installed a program it could of installed backround application.

RUN updated Anti-virus program!!! If you dowmloaded a nasty little germ, it can use your machine to traffic all kinds of info and thereby slow your system down.
