Kimahri, my sheltie is almost two years old now. Since he was about a year old he's been having trouble with his joints. It doesn't happen that often anymore, but out of the clear blue he'll start limping, holding his right foreleg off the ground. Sometimes it happens to the back left leg as well. He doesn't really look like he's in pain... He'll zoom up the stairs, chase after a frisbee, hop up on the bed on two legs and chase after the ducks at the park. After a couple days it'll just go away but I'd really like to know what's wrong... It's always the same two legs too... Any help is really appreciated.

Dogs tend to hide when they're in pain especially is they're playful.
I think you should talk to your vet. He'll let you know whether it's something serious or not.

my sheltie does this too. Try checking the pads of his feat for cracks. Sometime my shelties feet will dry out and split. Also check his nails, if they are too long or broken they could cause pain. I use bag balm on my dogs feat when the dry out. It a vasaline like product made for cows. You can get it at a pets store and sometimes even walgreens by the hand lotion. If that is not the case then you have to consider the fact that smaller dogs do have a tendency to have joint problems. Also another thing to consider, is your dog over weight? This can also add stress to the joints.
