If your spelling doesn't improve, you'll be there typing even longer!

First of all, you should really work on your spelling before you take the job. I do hope you type better in the office than you do online.

As far as a tape is concerned, it depends on how long the tape is. Most use 60 minute tapes, which are 30 minutes each side. A full side can take up to about an hour or two to type up, depending on what it is you are transcribing and if the person who is dictating is speaking clearly. I can do about 5 or 6 tapes a day but they are usually not full tapes (definitely not both sides most times). But then again, I also type around 90 wpm.

I had a temp job where audio typing was a big part of it. I'd never done it before, and my typing speed was about the same as yours.

I really struggled with it to begin with, especially as one of the people I was transcribing for had a Scottish accent and I couldn't understand a word she was saying (I'm from London)! I gradually improved with practice, and I also figured out that you can slow the speed down of the tape and make yourself look really busy so no-one can tell exactly how long it is taking you to do one tape. This can solve your problem temporarily while you get back up to speed.

I'm not sure how many letters you'd get on one tape as it depends how long the letters are! But, I think you can get 30 minutes of speaking time on one side of the tape, so an hour on one tape. Maybe five one-page letters per side then?

there is a computer program...I think it's called Dragon Voice recognition or something like that. Anyways, it allows the user to dictate into a microphone and the computer types everything that he or she says and then you can print it out.
There is also a website that you can transmit an mp3 recording to as an e-mail attachment and for a fee...they will professionally type the correspondence and e-mail it back to you...
I believe it's called... www.superofficeonline.com
I hope this info will be of use to you!
