I have a family member, who says she's not a racist. But she tells her children that if they date black men she will disown them.They can date any other race, but not black men. Her excuse is that it would be hard on them with the way the world is today.Mind you that i am bi-racial (half black and white) and she is white. whats your imput on this matter...

Yeah she's a racist. Her rationale of why she doesn't like it, doesn't make any since. I wish I had the opportunity to talk with some like that.
To Jessica O. Who do you think more white men would want you or Hallie Berry?
People like Jessica O and your Aunt have a problem with GOD. GOD creates all people. A first class trip to HELL just may be in their future.
To the person talking about identities. Just because blacks and white choose to be asses on this doesn't make it right.
To the author of this email see people for 'Who' there are not 'What' they are and find people blacks, White or whatever who think this way and you'll find place just for you.

I have to say that she is a racist...
But to me there are different types of racist... One who are the most extreme kinds are the ones who goes out there and commit crimes towards those that they feel is inferior to them or just have a hatred for them.
Then there are the ones that are not as mild like the person you're talking about. It might be through the way she was raised or just her experience growing up but she somehow formulated that black people in general goes through more difficulties in life than other races. As a mother she probably just wants whats best for her kids and in her opinion dating black people is not the best for her kids.
I'm pretty sure she wont disown them if they actually date a black person. She just feels like to have an easier life its much better to date other race. Ofcourse i dont agree with her opinions but someone just needs to show her that there are alot of successful black people out there.
For those with negative comments about mixing race.... You guys are all immature! Calling people ugly based on their race or ethnicity is racist and wrong! Maybe you should try looking at a mirror before you call others ugly!

Hmm.I think racist is not the word the best describes her. She obviously have preconcieved ideas about black men. I think what she's teaching her child is wrong. Who knows, there maybe some truth in what she's saying but she should always tell her daughter a good reason or else she's going to end up being the evil person, not a person that cares for her daughter.
And besides, it doesnt matter what the color is as long as he's Mr. Right and attractive.
But i do think shes 80 percent racist.

yup she is very much racist n she is using what she is saying as n excuse to b that way.Now adays being a mixed race is sooo normal.Let her no that we r in the yr 2007 not 1970 which is when it wasn't known .Now at least 50% of our world is mixed.Let her no it's just the colour of the skin for crying out loud that we r all the same on the inside.How would she feel if she got in an accident n her face was deranged n she liked a guy n he said he would never go for her cuz of her face.That is just as racist n she is very mean n cruel.I got grounded for walking home in grade 7 for walking home with a coloured friend.As I grew older n made my own decisions most of my friends where from all over the world.U can't help who u fall in love with.Well hope your friend changes for her kids sake cuz this can cause them trouble if they talk about this with peers at school.God if others find out they might even gang up on the kid thinking this was his or her decision.Well 1 day they will b able to make there own mind so I wouldn't worry to much

It seems to me she is a racists. However, she is right. It is hard for black people just because they are black, can you imagine how people look at bi-racial couples and kids. I am not saying it is right, just that it is what it is.
I am very fortunate to be a white guy.
The guy who said we need to stophaving guilt for our preferences is absolutely correct. If someone doesn't like white, black, or purple people for whatever reason good for them.

She is as racist as they come. She is using an age old excuse that has little to no bearing in today's society but she's ignorant, she probably still believes that.
Society has little care about you dating or living with someone from another race. People are dieing in Iraq, losing their jobs and life is uncertain from day-to-day, the last thing most people trying to make it today have time to do is give a damn about what who you have decided to fall in love with or screw.
It's your family that is going to be the ones fixated on that sh!t. Now you're going to find out who the real racist are from the people closest to you.

well, to a large extent i could say that she is racist,by telling her children not to date a person of different skin colour...
but i think that she may have her 'real' reason for that, why don't you try to discuss with her, maybe she would understand your feelings..... anyway, what makes a happy couple is basically only love, not because of money,race, religions, etc
well,i can't make a decision for you.... u have to make your own decision...remember any decision will be your wisest decision.....and of course always think about the consequences before making a choice

She is completly rude and unsensitive, there are plenty parents that feel this way, but are mature and love their kids enough to know that these types of statements breed hate. Most of the time these kids end up dating somebody of a different race. She should really be apologizing to you, though she obviously has some inner hate and she's bringing her children up with the same mind set and ignorance.

obviously she has come up with a rationalization for her racist behavior in order to make herself feel better about it. she tells them it would be because society would be hard on them, and yet by disowning them she would be joining in on that persecution.
