I ALWAYS use thermal grease. You may or may not actually need it, but it's cheap insurance. It won't solve all of your heat woes, but it adds a layer of protection at low cost.

You don't need to buy any thermal paste for the AMD CPU's, since the heatsink already comes with a thermal solution. Normally, you would only buy thermal paste if you intend to overclock your CPU, or install some more advanced cooling solution.

You will want something for transferring heat efficiently from the processor to the heatsink/fan.

If there is a pad - then use it, if not - use thermal paste.

Otherwise you will definitely have overheating problems, and can even destroy the processor.

Get yourself a little tube of Arctic Silver and use it. All CPU's should have a way of transfering heat to the heat sink and that is exactly what thermal grease is for.

Always use thermal conducting compound with ANY CPU! Take the pad off if the heatsink has one and just use a small coating of the compound. :-)=

In the middle, about the size of a grain of rice. Don't spread it around though, the weight of the CPU cooler will automatically spread it around.
