i grew up in in the city of Buffalo and my wife in the suburbs. The neighborhoods in the city are crumbling and the worst thing is the school system. We have a kid in the Buffalo schools now and she is having a very hard time there. We now have another one on the way and i want to move to the burbs where the kids are safe and in good schools, but my wife wants to stay in the city. we have fought about this over the past year and nothing i say is convincing her. She is concerned about diversity which i respect, but i am more concerned about the kids well being. what do i do next?

Ask her to picture the kids in the future, while diversity is a good thing staying in the city schools will limit their career opportunities for the rest of their lives. It seems to me that there are other things you could get them involved in that would expose them to other races and cultures outside of school. Also the city schools can expose them to peer pressures that arent so good. (drugs, high rates of teenage pregnancy, violence). If they get their exposure by having them join clubs, groups, etc. the parents can have some control over what they are exposed to. Believe me I am a firefighter in large urban area and alot of what they will see isnt real pretty. It is so sad to see these young kids growing up with really terrible families and role models, you just know these kids dont stand a chance in life.
