Hello...i was wondering if anybody had any input on the meaning/symbolism behind the crescent moon and stars that are seen in artwork or tattoos, etc...Obviously, the main would be representing Islam...but other than that...does anyone know of any other meanings? Thanks

Generally the moon can be used to represent the divine circle of life: Life Death Re-Birth.

It applies to the goddess as well, and has been a long time symbol of the feminine power of creation (her cycle and its ties to the lunar calendar) Those three phases mentioned above are also echoed as the Maiden, The Mother and the Crone.

In Tarot the moon represents constant change.

Not only does it represent like you said the Islam's, but it has quite a large involvement in some pagan societies' symbols. The crescent moon represents the goddess: Selene, Diana, ect. and the star can represent the elements. Also it shows up in some modern celtic artwork.
