Signal boosting aerials are available to increase the range of wireless network cards.
If your laptop has built-in wireless network you may have to obtain an additional network card to use instead of the built-in one. Then use the signal boosting aerial to increase your laptops range.
The aerial could be used with your router instead to increase its broadcast range. Providing your network is secured (network key and possibly MAC address blocking) your security will not be compromised.

i have been using the bt home hub since it was introduced a year ago,and the wireless reception is not the best you can get
although you can get a reception at around 75metres its only around 10mbps which is usable but not good
there are wireless amplifiers you can buy which basically look like sattelite dishes and amplify the wireless signal by up to 100%,these may be of help but i havent seen them working to give you feedback
the main problem with wireless signals is other electrical equipment near by,this can affect the strength of the signal, factors incluse...microwave ovens,tv,s,hi-fi speakers(unsheilded),mobile phones,cb-radios,and last but not least..wet dogs...yes a wet dog can affect the signal strength on your home hub,or any wireless router
the reason for this is the wet fur on a dog is blocking the signal, dont ask me how,i heard this on a bbc tv programme"click"
personally if you are worried about security,i would run a 60 metre lengtgh of rj-45 network cable instead of using wireless,60 meters will cost you around £12 from any good pc stores, then secure it using cable clips, using network cable is better for speed aswell, you should get a steady 100mbps
good luck

Can you move the hub closer to the office via a longer LAN cable. You might also try the hub at an higher position and different places in the room. If laptop wireless is USB connection, you can also try a USB extension cable.

I think you can buy a device that plugs into your laptop to increase its range.
However, why do you not want to increase the Hubs range. If you use a WEP key then you will be fine. If you don't then you really should!

I read something somewhere where the distance supplied by the hub was increased using a pringles packet, the downside was that it was mono directional, so it could only go to one place, I hope this helps.
