Spent six months in London, after the Kings Cross bombings. The Brits have more backbone and are less whiny about these things.
They deal with adversity very differently than Americans. They are already so pessimistic, self-effacing and do not feel "entitled" they way we do. They expect crap to happen.
When crappy things happen they go drink a few pints, stick their chin up and carry on mate!
In just a few weeks, people were up and running like the bombings never happened.

British humor is more often intelligent. American humor is too often based on fart jokes and sex.
The British have sexier accents.
Public television is a way of life in Britain, but Americans always complain when PBS has fundraisers.
There is a greater chance for higher education in Britain because it is government funded, while the poor often can't help themselves in America because they can't afford to go to even public universities.
Britain's proximity to the rest of Europe means that holidaymakers are easily exposed to different languages and cultures. To get that in America, you would have to go much farther (to Mexico is closest) because our culture is pretty homogeneous.
The British are lucky to have a history that goes back hundreds or thousands of years. Most Americans are descended of immigrants, and so the longest our history reaches is five hundred years for some hispanics and four hundred years for some of British descent. And, of course, our nation is only a little over 200 years old. Which is kind of a blip in time, really.
British government is completely better situated than American. Americans claim to have democracy, but we run a two party system, whereas there are many significant third parties in Britain. Additionally, the whole presidential things is really no different than the constitutional monarchy. And Americans obviously have some longing to return to a sort of monarchy or we wouldn't be drooling all over Britain's royalty like they were our own.
The British make better television programmes.
I am under the impression that racism is not as strong in Britain because slavery was not as widespread. The root of racism in the US seems to stem from the long tradition of slavery in so many states.
These are just a few of the reasons why Britain rocks harder than the US.

I lived in England for 4 years and by far the number one difference is the food. We know how to cook. (That why most of us are overweight). The English are for the most part, very skinny.
Secondly, England has a larger percent of their citizens on "the dole", we call it welfare. Those who are non-productive in England are supported by those with incentive to work. The tax rate is out of this world there because of all the social programs to include "Council Housing" and "Universal Health Coverage". The welfare housing is as bad as many ghettos in the USA and people in England brag when they can afford to pay for Private health care and get off government covered health care coverage (which sucks).
And lastly, although many Americans can't see it, England is definitely a culture of the have and have-nots. The poor speak an English that is hardly recognizable to most Americans. Its the language of the uneducated and poor. (Similar to Ebonics in the USA). Those with jobs and even a little money speak the Queen's English which is much more recognizable to Americans.
And to finish this quick comparison... The English like to drink dark beer at room temperature. YUK!

I think that British people are more reserved and take everything seriously whereas Americans are more expressive and open with their feelings, they know how to enjoy themselves and have fun and not worry about what people think. they are more humorous too.

It's much more Puritanical. The Colonies were established by the Puritans fleeing from Europe, and we've never gotten very far from those roots.

How much does Kent differ from Cornwall? Both are diverse. If there were one unifying US trait, it would be too much freedom.
