To be honest, I think we all aspire to play fair and face things head on in an honorable fashion. In practice, however, I think we often fall short. Sometimes the most effective way to get things done, or have things our way requires... some shady practices. And at the end of the day, we're more concerned with producing the right result than we are with upholding an honorable procedure.

On a recent issue I tried to handle it like an adult, face on, but the counterpart didn't want to do it that way. Pity...things should be fixed the right way, even more so when we are all adults.

I used to think that until I married the same kind of person you have described. Talking adult with reason and sanity just goes over his head.
So, I let him hang himself. When he complaines I just smile and agree with him. Then later when he asks if I had done what he had wanted, (which of coarse I did not hear or want to do) I just say "oh were you talking to me"?

Depends on what the problem is.
Most likely deal with them as an adult.

I would try not to deal with them, period. But if there's no choice then I try to do it in the most civilized way possible. No point in making an @ss of yourself.

Definitely be an adult about it. Of course it may not go both ways.

I would definitely let them know that I had a problem with them. There would be no mistaking it.I would deal with them personally. Not behind their back.

I would ignore them.
Actually, I'd be cordial if I had to, but otherwise avoid them
This is how I deal with my boss
