The PlayStation 3 is compatible with most of the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 games. Sony has set up a website which includes the full compatibility list for the PS3 (the European Version). Maybe you should check it out.

no it was supposed to be compatible but about a week or two before they said it wont be compatible
