I need a play, or more acurately, a section of a play for a drama contest. I only need to use 10 minutes and preferbly a cast of 5-7. I don't mind what it's about or where its set. Basically you could just tell me your favourite play! Thanks for any help

Frankly, I'm not sure that big-cast musicals are appropriate for your purposes.

Have a look at "You Can't Take it With You" and/or "The Man Who Came to Dinner." Big, ensemble casts, lots of scenes with multiple characters, and fun stuff for actors.

Having 5 - 7 people on the stage is kind of tough. The plays below are NOT musical - and they are not overdone. But all of them have casts of about 5-7. You'd have to find the scenes where they are all on stage. (Which very often are not the best scenes)

Moonchildren

The Fifth of July

The Lady's not for Burning

The Curious Savage

You Can't Take it With You

Beautiful Bodies

One HYSTERICAL play is called God's Favorite by Neil Simon, who is a god of playwrights. It is a comedy and has some very funny scenes.

i found this paragraph on http://www.wizzy.com/starbar/god/:
Neil Simon has actually made a funny play from the Book of Job--transferring the scene to a Long Island mansion, where dwells a pious, God-fearing tycoon and his family: a long-suffering wife, a prodigal son and a pair of kooky twins. One night a messenger from God (with a big G on his sweatshirt) arrives, and, as in the original story, goes through all manner of temptations to renounce God. When he refuses, he is visited by all the afflictions imaginable. He stands firm and the messenger has to admit defeat. Written with Simon's typical flair for comedy.

You are looking for a short play or scene, not a musical, correct. Try looking at some of Horton Foote's scripts. I think you might find something you like.

The Invisible Dragon--It seems geared towards children, but it really has read-through-the-lines inuendos. You can compare it a lot to Shrek. I suggest it for High School.

Death of a salesman - classic and has a nice range of caste - you might want to look at one-act plays
