A cool compress should help the swelling a bit. If you don't have a lot of time, you could try getting up just ten minutes earlier to try a compress or tea bags...or get up, get your tea bags or compress, go lie back down in bed for a while with them resting on your eyes and get that little extra bit of sleep. Make sure whatever you're using isn't too cold. If you're using just an ice pack, try wrapping it in a washcloth before resting it on your eyes.

You might also notice that eating food, particularly salty food, before bedtime will encourage water retention, therefore swelling. Try not to eat much at least a few hours before bedtime. Also, not drinking enough water will encourage your body to retain water. Drinking water before bed (and plenty throughout the day!) should help. Also avoid caffeine and alcohol as they can encourage dehydration. Try moisturizing the area around your eyes before bedtime as well.

Sometimes there's not much you can do about puffiness if it's hereditary. My husbands eyes almost always look puffy when he wakes up. Getting a good amount of rest and trying some of the things mentioned above should help. Most important, sleep and keeping yourself hydrated.

This is the remedy of one of my gfs. You can try if it works. She usually leave 2 metal spoons in the freezer. In the morning, she'll take it out, rinse it under running water to clean as well as to make the spoon less cold and lay it over her eye for abt 5 sec or so.

Another thing to prevent puffy eyes in the morning, try to avoid taking any fluid 1 - 2 hours before you go bed.

Hey, that's bad. Puffy eyed till lunch time is really bad. You better consult a physician. For quick remedy, try rubbing an ice cube around the swollen area. It causes the muscles to contract and the excess accumulated liquid drains out of that area.

I used to have the same problem. It was so bad that when I tried to open my eyes they were so swollen and crusted over I couldn't see. I started putting a damp washcloth over my eyes. That soon stopped everything and every time I feel it start I do that same method. Just leave the washcloth on overnight and it goes away.
