Weve purchased the inflatable ring type in the past 18'x4' but Im wondering about the type with the pvc frame they are a bit more expensive and Im wondering if its worth it - if they are more sturdy and last longer I would think so but then again the fact that the inflatables have more give and flexibility maybe they are less likely to leak and easier to repair??? Anyone have experiences with the pvc-like frame type? Our infaltables last about 2 seasons.

Both pools are only meant to be temporary set-ups.
The advantage of a PVC framed pool is that the water depth can be higher than the types with the inflatable ring. The only problem with the PVC framed pools is that the PVC can break as it has allot of stress on it. There are a few manufacturers that make temporary pools similar to the PVC frame but they use aluminum and or steel in some cases. These pools are much better than the PVC frames but do cost more.

I would suggest to seriously look at how long you want to use the pool for and how long you will be in your current house. It probably will be much cheaper down the line if you bought a regular above ground pool. These pools will last far longer than any temporary pool, and will be cheaper than replacing your temporary pool every two years. Even the cheapest pool at most pool stores will last you at least 10 years if it is properly installed and maintained. Typical Above ground pools can run anywhere from $500 installed up to $5,000 depending on the size and type.

One last thing: Some swimming pool retailers may even give you credit for your old temporary pool towards the purchase of a regular AG pool

I bought the inflatable rather than the PVC because it was sturdier. If you are buying inflatable pools every couple of seasons, you might think of investing in an above ground pool. We have been buying the inflatable pools for several years and finally bought an above ground pool at the end of last season. We were able to purchase a 24 foot round pool for around $1500. Had we purchased the above ground pool in the beginning, we would've actually saved money on pool expenses. Just something to think about.

A pool. I don't like the fact that some critter could eat me in a lake, river or ocean. I am scared to death of snakes as well. I have been swimming in natural pools of water but I don't like to.
