there are no rules as such. teachers are expected to have a moral code and to obey certain standards. if a teacher does that it is wrong, but theres no "allowing or not allowing" when it comes to things like that. if a teacher does that i would mention it to his/her boss or the teacher his/herself, becuase it is wrong to do that

I would never do this in my classroom, if a teacher had this opinion there is an underlying concern. The teacher should then talk to the child and if proffessional enough the parents.
By doing it in front of a whole class he is putting down the child in question and therefore can be classed as 'bullying.'
If this does relate to you and a child of yours you should demand to see the headteacher and ask for your child to be moved into another teachers classroom; the teacher should be requested to apologise to the child.
How can the teacher expect his/her pupils to become motivated if he/her demotivates the child....
Get it sorted ;-)
Good Luck

Most teachers do not intentionally embarrass their students. It does happen from time to time.
If a student is openly defiant and misbehaving so that the entire class is affected then it may sometimes be necessary to reprimand in from of others. Usually better results are obtained when correction occurs without an audience.

No, the teachers aren't allowed to embarass their students by bringing them down in front of everyone. That's a bully's job. But that remind me of my mean old science teacher. She always picks on two students in my class. She says they'll fail if they don't stop being such hooligans. Even though it's somewhat true, I know those hooligans are bright, they just seem to have no self control over their actions. But I wouldn't worry too much over it. Half of the time, I don't even listen to what those unfair teachers say.

Its sick to think a teacher can bully students like that!!
I used to have a teacher in middle school who would shout at us and call us 'retards' and then would ask us who our favorite teacher was and if we didnt mention her she would punish us by not letting us go to lunch...
The School Districts should do something about teachers like this ... but they dont and thats sad since we count on teachers to teach us and to teach our children...
Maybe that is why there are so many kids in High School dropping out of school...

NO, but it never stopped them doing it to me, or beating the living daylights out of me. I had one master hold me on a radiator till it scored a mark across my back, another hit me with a cricket bat quite a few times. I won't go into the other stuff, kids read this an that.
Always tried to humiliate me in front of my mates, or get me to wire plugs or use power tools without telling me how they worked
Ah schooldays, the best time of your life, yeah right.
An you know what, I don't care how old they are when I see them again, I was eight, their getting payback.
Unfortunately, complaining can make it worse for your kid, believe me I know.

They shouldn't unless they want to complete loss the respect of all students in the class and cause themselves more classroom difficulties.
Also, they are doing nothing to help that child to learn anything. The minute the teacher started to yell at that student, the student shut down and has stopped listening and learning anything from that teacher.

No. I am a sophomore in high school and our teachers arent allowed to do that. And personally I don't think a teacher should be able to decide whether a student is or is not clever enough because no one decides our fate but us and if that person chooses to go nowhere than they will but if they choose to go somewhere with their life than that's what they choose not someone who just helps us along.

no it's not, you should always positive towards your student give them encourage with their life instead of embarrassing them. but if you want to say something negative not in front of the other students or else he/she get bullied by the rest...check first what the role of a real teacher before getting the teacher's job...

I wouldn't do that in so many words but sumetimes kids need to be jolted into wising up, and what the hell, the world is a tough place and you'd better get accustomet to taking knocks.
