My wife and I are the proud new parents of a beautiful baby girl. We had her Christened this past weekend and many of our relatives have given her gifts for the occasion. Many of these gifts were in the form of a check. We would like to deposit these checks in our savings account until we can decide what we are going to do with them. Am I allowed to sign these checks and deposit them into my own account even if they are made out to my daughters name?

My dad does it for my brother, who is a minor.
Usually the bank will ask you to sign your name on the back of the check, then put "parent of a minor".

If your are just depositing them I dont think you really need to sign them. If you are cashing the check then you might need to sign them. I suggest that you open a new account for you daughter and place the checks into her account.

You definately can deposit them into your own account....the teller/bank will understand. Take along her birth certificate, just in case, but I don't see you having any problems.

I am very surprised that guests at the celebration made checks out to her!!

Of course you can! She is TOO young to sign her name. Open an account in HER NAME, and set up an automatic fund transfer so the account will grow. When the balance gets to a minimum amount, open an IRA for her as a way to pay for post secondary education.
