It is very simple
First you right click on your desktop (of course with everything minimized)
Next go to Properties
Then click on the tab labeled Screen Saver
Then you will see an option on the bottom that says Power
Click on it and change the settings...

I'm assuming it's Windows XP. Go to Start - Settings - Control Panel. You will see a Power Options icon. Double click on it.

In the Power Schemes tab, you wil see "turn off monitor after" set this to never, or 1 hour...whatever you like.

Go to your desktop and left click on it. Then go under Properties, then click on the Screen Saver tab and click on the Power button. There, it will give you an option to turn power save off.

On a windows PC - go to the control panel - power settings and look at the power setup for your screen (ie - screen timeout). If the setting there is not the culprit - it's something in the setup of the monitor itself - if it IS that - post the make and model and I will research for you.
