how about a nice picture frame that says "mom + dad =me" or a twilight turtle nightlight that shoots stars up in the sky

You can NEVER give enough baby wipes and diapers...although don't give newborn diapers...I got so many packs of newborn diapers...she won't be newborn size long enough to use all of them! Get size 1 or even 2!. Also, I really appreciate anything for when the baby is slightly older (from 6 months to a year). Everyone buys newborn clothes and accessories, then your baby hits 3 months and nothing anyone got you fits or can be used anymore!. Just remember that the season/weather will be different if you buy older clothes...so if you buy 6 month clothes NOW make sure they are a little warmer (it'll be heading towards fall at that point).
But even better than clothes are the diapers, wipes, lotions, baby shampoo and wash, those impossibly small fingernail clippers! Or a walmart, Target, Babies-r-us gift card! Trust me, any gift will be appreciated!

A gift card is great because a parent can buy supplies as they need them and in the brand they deserve. If you know what kind of diapers the family is using that is a great help. Otherwise, clothes in larger sizes like 6-9 months. A gift certificate to a resturant so the mother can go out for a few hours without baby. Do not assume they everything they need? After having 2 boys, I always find something I need for my younger son, that I didn't need for my older. Onesies are always practical. You can get them in cute colors.

Diapers and wipes! I loved it when people came bearing diapers. Huggies are my fav. We always need them and you may save them a trip to the store. Buy size one, not newborn. Babies don't wear newborn diapers very long. Other great things to get are baby wash, hand sanitizer, and diaper cream. You go through tons of that stuff, too.
Someone also gave me a big bag of stage one baby food. At the time, I thought it was a little early, but the day I realized I needed actual food it was great! I didn't have to go out. I just went to the pantry and got my son some lunch. The fruits are great first foods.
If you want to do something for the mom and grandma, offer to watch the baby for a while so they can take a shower, eat a meal, paint their toenails, take a nap, etc.

As someone else said, diapers - you can never have enough, lol. But get the next size up, she may have plenty of newborn diapers to get her through.
Also, a gift card to anywhere that sells baby stuff. That way, she can get what she needs or wants that wasn't already given to her. And I always like to include a little something for the new mom, like something from Bath & Body Works or the like. My friends have always been appreciative of the thought, when everything else has revolved around the baby. New moms need pampering too!

Despite if you think they have everything they need, they don't. Give her something that's going to be for 6-9 mos (onesies, etc) because most people always give gifts from newborn to 3 mos. You can always give them blankets, diapers, and even a gift certificate for a massage for the mom. Either way, I'm sure they'll be greatful that they were thought of, so don't feel bad, better "late" than never.

Food for the mother!!! It is SOO hard to cook for yourself while caring for a newborn. That was the best gift anyone ever brought me. For the baby- diapers or a noise machine. Can never have enough diapers and the mother might be amazed at how wonderful a noise machine is when it comes to helping a baby sleep!

I would get an outfit, maybe pick a bigger size, she probably has tons of clothes for now, so a bigger size would be for later on. Thats what I really enjoyed when I was pregnant, I bought small sizes and everyone else seemed to get bigger sizes and its great, cause now shes 6 months and I don't have to go out and buy so much clothes. Its nice to go through the closet and pick out the clothes shes finally fitting into, its like shopping at home!!

They are gonna need a lot of pampers, baby wipes, baby wash/powder, clothes are later because the baby is growing by the minute. Maybe some nice blankets. Or you can get a stroller or anything they probably say they don't have. Just ask them, there's always something they need.

Depends how much you like the new Mum.
If you like her the BEST gift is the following.
Make some pretty little cards with the following written on them
'Redeem this card for ONE hours baby-sitting'
Keep the promise of the cards and do baby-sitting for the Mum so she can
- get some sleep
- go out and enjoy herself with the man in her life etc.

Two weeks is not really late, anything would be nice! If she is a teen mom, she may need some practical things more than fun stuff. One cannot go wrong with diapers, wipes, onesies, sleepers, etc. Maybe make a batch of cookies or some goodies and drop by and say congrats.
