Hi could some one tell me what is the best protection for my comp...?

i just got my comp an right now..i got norton antivirus..but its not doing a good job...thanks for yr help....jean

I have found zone alarm to work wonders for my system. It has many programs to help keep your system clean. 1.antivirus.2.spyblocker3.autoupdate.4.keeps hackers out.5.tells you when something is trying to access your computer.6.it also has a stop (kill )button to the Internet if something is wrong.7.you can setup web pages you want to have access to or not. I have this on mine and never had any problems.

the best protection is to keep it off of the net.

but since i know you don't want to do that here is the next best thing.

get a router even if you don't plan to network two or more computers. routers have their own ip number which hides your computer's ip number from hackers and they have a builtin firewall. this is firewall will stop stuff before it gets on your computer.

also get a two-way software firewall like zonealarm. a two-way firewall also stops programs with spyware in them from reporting back to the author of that software. the problem with just using a software firewall is it can only deal with stuff after it gets on your computer.

best scenario is to use both firewalls together

if you have program that won't work with these on you can still use it. in the firewalls is an exceptions list. go in there and click the app you want to use and the firewall will let it work.

As long as you have Windows, you are going to get infected with some of the 114,000 virii that infect Windows. The smart thing to do is to dump Windows and get a good, secure, open source operating system like Kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org. Mac also works.

I think any virus protection program is fine to use but it's how your computer is installed that matter the most!

i think you should get McAfee it comes with a security center that tells you the newest virus's and how to prevent them from getting in your computer.. and it also comes with a virus scan that would clean up your computer if you have any on there..
