Hey.. Yeh i've played baseball for 11 yrs.. hard ball mostly lol but i was a secondbase too.
A good thing to is to stand off ur base, right inbetween ur base and 1st, espcailly if theres no one on ur base. Geez saying base alot gets confusing lol.. But doing that well help any grounders or short fly balls from passing through that little space between you and 1st... i know it always helped me.. espcailly with those left handed batters. I hope that helps. .

If your playing fastpitch softball the best adv I can give you is to find a knowledgeable player, or better yet, coach in your area. Someone that can teach you the proper throwing and fielding techniques and fundamentals. You will need to know also when to cover first and second base, how to take relays from the outfield. There is alot to learn and the best way is to find a good coach and practice alot. If you are paying slowpitch for fun, stand halfway between 1st and 2nd and get ready to have fun.

1. Stand one quarter of the way inbetween 2nd and 1st.
2. Bend your knees and have you hands ready to stop a grounder.
3. No where to throw the ball at ALL times!
4. Sunglasses- this is for all positions but they could save a few errors.
5. No your teams rule for base coverage when bunting- ask your coach, but usually 2nd basemen covers 1st if a bunt goes towards 3rd.
6. Always be ready!

GOOD LUCK!

Just make sure you are talking to the first baseman alot and aways no what each other are doing that way you know when to cover first and with not too..........and if the ball is hit over by third or short you have to know when to cover the second bag so that if a double play is there you can do it
also talk to you short stop because if the ball is hit up the middle and the pitch getts it they need to know who is going to have the bag for the double play and if i where you i would let the short stop take it if it is up the middle because they are facing the right way to be able to throw the ball to first...........Hope this helps..........and remember it is easier said than done don't give up just have Fun!!!

Well, depends on what level. But I say know where the play is going. Know when to cover during plays. (i.e a bunt, cover first. when to cover 2nd on a hit, and an important one: serving as a cut-off to the outfield.) Generally, a good player will be able to "talk it up" and call out the plays. Its just a good way to be focused and have everyone into the game. Good luck.
