There used to be a large wing of the GOP that was the country club elite, who saw big government as a philanthropic body much like their charity organizations - - but funded of course by everyone, not just them. Most of these people were old money - very old - which is why they were sometimes called "Rockefeller Republicans."

This phrase "not your daddy's Republican" is getting old though - I'm a daddy and when I was growing up the standardbearer was Ronald Reagan, who was not a Rockefeller Republican and in fact was leading the revolution against that wing of the party. Nixon was neither a Reaganite nor old money - or any money, for that matter, his father owned a small grocery store - and before that the standard-bearer was Goldwater. So, it's really "not your granddaddy's Republican."

spectacular element, this is unusual, related to the Republicans... They get a genuine patriot... somebody this is truthfully taken section, or did their section, in the protection tension, & they call him a wimp.... fairly some them, are not in any respect happy campers, with McCain ... yet they weren't all that astonishing, to Senator John Kerry, while he ran against Bush, in 2004.... seems they like the draft dodgers, maximum suitable.... Makes me ask your self why they hated Clinton, lots....

Even my sister-in-law says that the GOP has shifted to the left the last couple of decades.
